Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

You can claim back retrospective up to 2 financial years, as well as your current year. Providing you have projects that meet the eligibility criteria, you can put a claim in for each of these years as well as each new year moving forward. Our team of specialists will work with you to determine where the claimable areas are.
Numerous projects a company undertakes have the potential to qualify for relief, ranging from developing new products, processes, services, materials or making appreciable improvements to existing ones. Often, companies view these qualifying projects as routine aspects of their operations and don’t understand how and why they could qualify. Our specialist team works with you to determine whether the activities your company undertakes could be presented to HMRC R&D Tax relief.
Even if your company has no tax liability for a qualifying year because it has made a loss for example, you can still put forward a claim. The claim would generate further losses which could be surrendered for a cash credit or carried forward to offset against future years. Our team will always lay out the options available to you, according to your company's claim and position.

With the new changes introduced by HMRC, such as the additional information form filing and stringent requirements to put forward comprehensive technical reporting to substantiate a claim, it is highly recommended to use a specialist.  Typically your accountant will just amend or fill out the relief on a CT600 and they will not be best positioned to accurately position or maximise your entitlement.

In instances where we review for clients work their accountants have prepared, the work prepared by the accountant usually does not suffice to substantiate an accurate claim or it is either incorrectly positioned thus not providing the client with the true benefit of their hard work. Furthermore, your accountant will not be best positioned to handle any queries or inquiries from HMRC.

Your accountant will still be your accountant and prepare your yearly financial compliance, if engaged with us, we will handle your R&D claim.  All of our work is prepared and delivered by legal experts, regulated financial professionals and technical experts. Our 360 approach to claiming R&D ensures we maximise your claim whilst providing you maximum safety and satisfaction.

Should there be any correspondence from HMRC surrounding your claim, our team of legal experts will work together with you at no further cost to address any queries HMRC may raise.
We will have your claim prepared within 4 weeks, and most claims are processed within 28 - 42 working days of being submitted. Sometimes it can be faster or slower than this but usually you can expect your claim to be approved within that time frame. If we do not hear anything back we will reach out to HMRC.
We then do all the heavy lifting to prepare your claim and deliver this relief to your company which could be in the form of a cash benefit, tax savings or both. We have a streamlined process and Gold Standard service, ensuring a smooth, seamless and safe experience for claiming R&D. We estimate this will take 3-4 hours of your time at most, which will involve your discovery call with us, your technical meeting and around an hour to provide us with the financial information required for the claim.
